Discharge static electricity in production…

You've undoubtedly encountered one or more electrostatic phenomena in your production. Whether it's dust and dirt being attracted, individual parts being statically repelled and thus not staying in their intended position during production, or electric shocks (keyword: accident prevention!) that your employees experience – hardly any production process is immune to the effects of electrostatics, because electrostatics are everywhere! Static electricity can therefore hinder many production processes that involve working with non-conductive materials such as plastic, paper, wood, or textiles.

But how can you tell if electrostatic charging plays a role in your production?

Most of the known problems are easy to identify:

How is electrostatic charge created?

Electrostatic charge is primarily generated by rubbing and separating poorly conductive materials. Electrostatic charge can be measured with a field meter/field strength meter (such as the [example missing]). FMX field strength meter) will be displayed. Let us advise you on the possibilities of electrostatic measurement – we also come to you. We would be happy to come to your home and carry out the measurements together with you on your machines (click to schedule an appointment).

Which method is the most effective for reducing electrostatic charge?

Non-conductive materials (insulators) cannot be discharged by grounding. The most effective and lasting solution for reducing electrostatic charges is active ionization. Air ionizers are best suited for this purpose. These generate a large number of positively and negatively charged ions in the surrounding atmosphere, which act as mobile charge carriers in the air. When ions are in the air, they are attracted to oppositely charged particles and surfaces. This process leads to the rapid discharge of the charged surfaces. With the SIMCO ionizer product line, we offer a wide range of customizable ionization systems for your specific application, from ion spray guns and ionization blowers to ionization tubes and electrostatic filters. What do ionizers look like and which one is right for my application?

Ionizers are available in several sizes and shapes. The choice depends on various factors:

  • Technology (external power supply or integrated high voltage with 24V)
  • Working distance
  • Material speed
  • What needs to be unloaded: a 3D product or a flat material web?
  • Environmental conditions, temperature, humidity
  • Inspections

This is what ionization could look like in your production. As mentioned, you can also purchase ionization blowers, ionization guns, etc. from us – we would be happy to visit your production facility and assess your specific challenges on-site to find the ideal ionization solution for you.
